Double flageolet

John Simpson, c. 1830 - c. 1850

The flageolet was specifically developed for domestic use and rarely intended for professional performances. Easy to learn, it was generally used to play popular tunes. In this model the right hand plays the higher notes, and the left one the lower notes to harmonize the melodic line. The ivory studs between the holes guide the fingers to the proper position.
