Dress Made of Printed Fabric

The dress is made of cotton with a glazed finish produced in Europe. This kind of European fabric, which was often printed, was a less expensive alternative to chintz, a handpainted or stained calico cloth imported from India. The dress on view is adorned with panels of the same fabric with pleats folded into a hexagonal pattern.

    Overjapon horend bij een dameskostuum van bedrukte katoen (chintz) met een patroon van streepjes en boeketjes. Van voren openstaand met kleine sleep. Rijglijfje gevoerd met wit linnen. Brede hoekige hals. Voor nauwaansluitend en met twee vestpanden en lange slippen. Achter stolpplooien. Halve mouwen. Opening en de hals zijn afgezet met een geplooide strook. Langs de rokzoom een voeringstrook van wit linnen.
