Deck Light

Rond patentglas met los rooster dat het glas kan vervangen. De messing flens wordt op het dek geschroefd met zes schroeven, het glas langs de onderzijde ingebracht met de matte bolle kant naar boven, en met een bajonetsluiting met zes nokken in de flens opgesloten; twee beugels dienen als handvaten. Het gietijzeren rooster is plat met zes spaken. Glas (A), messing flens (B) en rooster (C).

Entry

Round deck light with loose grille that can replace the glass. The brass flange is designed to be screwed on to the deck with six screws, the glass can be inserted from below with the frosted convex side up, and fixed with a bayonet catch with six notches. The flange has two handles. The cast iron grille is flat with six spokes.

In 1821, deck lights of this type were used by the British Navy on sloops of war, brigs and paddle steamers. They could be adapted to take windsails in the tropics.1J.M. Obreen, Catalogus der verzameling modellen van het Departement van Marine, The Hague 1858, no. 232.
