Cosimo III de Medici in the Garden of the Villa Medici

Stefano della Bella (mentioned on object), 1656

Stefano Della Bella portrayed Prince Cosimo III de Medici while he closely studies a vase larger than himself. In 1656 Cosimo was fourteen years old and blissfully ignorant of the eventful life that lay ahead of him as a scion of the powerful Medici family. Art would alwayshold a special place for him. The Greek vase from the first century was a veritable showpiece in the garden of the Villa Medici.
