Comb with suski grass

anonymous, 1750 - 1850

In Japan, luxury items were often decorated with seasonal motifs and only used during that particular time of year. This comb is ornamented with sprinkled gold powder, with the autumn grass susuki (Miscanthus sinensis). Here and there, silver balls have been inlaid as a eepresentation of dewdrops.
