Chinese and North Korean Prisoners of War

Werner Bischof (mentioned on object), 1952-01-27

The Swiss photographer Bischof made various reportages of the Korean War (1950-1953). This photograph was taken in a United Nations camp for Chinese and North Korean prisoners of war on the island of Koje-do. Bischof portrayed the situation with great empathy: the human dignity of the prisoners is primary. Despite everything, the photographer remained a stylist.
