Café Chez Moineau

Ed van der Elsken, after 1949 - before 1954

Ed van der Elsken lived in Paris between 1950 and 1955. He came into contact with a group of young people who spent a lot of time in cafés such as Chez Moineau. Under the title Een liefdesgeschiedenis in Saint Germain des Prés (Love on the Left Bank), Van der Elsken made a photo novel about Manuel’s unrequited love for Ann. The pages are rhythmically filled with alternating smaller and larger photographs.
