Communion Cup of Vianen

anonymous, c. 1625

Communion was celebrated in Dutch Reformed churches with the same silver cups as were used in private homes. This one spent the first forty years of its life on the table of the Van Brederode family. In 1668 Juliana van Brederode gave the by then old-fashioned vessel to the church of Vianen for use during the Lord’s Supper.
