‘Partie de Campagne’ (Country Outing)

Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (mentioned on object), 1897

Even in this landscape scene worked out in delicate colours, Lautrec focuses most attention on the people. Followed by their dog, this elegantly attired couple have escaped the city for a day trip to the countryside. Lautrec may have based the rendering of the flat landscape – unusual for France – on memories of a holiday he took in the Netherlands in 1894.
