‘A Meeting to See the Model’ Christiaan Andriessen (1775-1846)

Christiaan Andriessen, 1805 - 1808

This scene from Andriessen’s illustrated diary shows the artist standing in the hallway of his house that opens to the sitting room. Waiting inside is a young woman who has applied to work as a life model for a drawing session. Holding a tray with cups of tea in his left hand, and his right hand grasping the doorknob, Andriessen peers inside through a crack in the door, probably waiting for the right moment to enter.
